First Playlist Of The Year

The process of revitalising the blog, consists a lot in listening and writing about new music.
For that, my dear Spotify playlist called Strange Sound, where I add the 10 (almost) new songs that I listened on the last days, is essential.
If I have a playlist, I memorise the singers, the songs, and can always come back to them later.
So, here's the new playlist, the first of this decade!

01. Legião Urbana - Tempo Perdido - Recently just saw a Brazilian movie, which main track was this classic from one of the best ever bands from South America.
02. Molly Burch - First Flower - As I did a review earlier this month about this album, here is one of the tracks from First Flower
03. Deerhunter - What Happens To People? - Check this amazing song from Deerhunter's fresh new album. A Review is coming soon.
04. Suede - Don't Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You - My all-time favourite band are coming back to Portugal this summer to play in Paredes de Coura festival!
05. Yo La Tengo - You Can Have It All - The North-American band gave a brilliant concert earlier this week at Hard Club in Porto, which I was lucky enough to be part of the audience.
06. Ecos Da Cave - Desejo - A lost forgotten it from an old Portuguese band that recently got back together to celebrate 30 years since their debut.
07. Blankenberge - Right Now - A new brilliant post-rock song from a Russian "bandcamp" band. Give it a listen.
08. Beirut - Gallipoli - New single from the always enjoyable Beirut.
09. Curtis Harding - Where We Are - A great blues with some disco vibes modern track .
10. Doctor Rockit - Café de Flore - I am really dreaming about summer and caipirinhas these last days. Even if the sun is not out here, it is inside my mind, specially when I listen to songs like this. A great track to enjoy a drink in the sun. If you are not in the mood now, save it for the summer.

Some News In A Playlist

I usually try to make playlist with some sense. Music news, new releases, something that happened in my life, etc. And it is a great way to listen to new and old music, with a meaning and with variety.
So here's the new playlist with the reasons why I picked the songs.

01. Sharon Van Etten - Seventeen - The artist just released her new album and it is great. Review coming soon.
02. Mac DeMarco - Chamber Of Reflection - The Canadian artist is releasing a new this year.
03. Geneva - Tranquillizer - The Scottish 90's band, who toured with Suede, are reforming this year for some shows and maybe will write new music together again.
04. Echo & The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon - Everyone was excited about the red moon earlier this week. so this song kind fits for it.
05. DeVotchKa - Second Chance - Just randomly listened to this week this week and I think it is amazing.
06. Interpol - The Scale - The North - Amercian band is coming to this year Primavera Sound, both in Porto and Barcelona
07. James Blake - Are You In Love? - The producer / musician / composer release is critically acclaimed new album "Assume Form".
08. Ornatos Violeta - Coisas - The Legendary Portuguese band recently confirmed that they are getting together for the first time since 2012 for 3 festival dates. I already have the tickets!
09. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - First time in years that I went to the cinema to see the biopic about Freddie Mercury. It is a great movie and a great performance.
10. Jack Johnson - Sunsets For Somebody Else - The weather is improving and expect some sunny days.

2019 Is Here And We're Back!

2019 is here, what a time to be alive, that a time to listen to good music!
Strange Sound, the blog and the playlist are back again. The blog is turning 13 years now, time flies!
Well, nothing better than to start the new year and the resurrection with a brand new playlist with songs that marked my 2018 mixed with some other that are super fresh in my ears-.
So have a listen to the next 10 songs that feature Ennio Morricone, Lea Porcelain, Girl in Red, Suede, Whitey, David Holmes, Molly Burch, Supergrass, Franz Ferdinand and Frank Sinatra!

The (Almost) Christmas Playlist

In this Christmas time, I'm back with the playlists.
So, nothing better than pick up 10 Christmas songs.
However, instead of selecting the same old songs that you can hear everyday on the shopping centre, I picked 10 songs that, melodically, reminds me of this part of the year.
The lyrics of the songs are not related with this religious holiday, but the melodies reminds me of peaceful, melancholic and happy thoughts (what real Christmas should really be about).
So here's a playlist about women, love, addiction, loss but with so beautiful melodies and instrumentals that you could be playing them on your Christmas dinner!

The Playlist Explained

On this week's playlist we have a new single by Beach House. The band just released a compilation album of b-sides and rarities and Chariot is one of the two new exclusive songs from the album.
To commemorate Depeche Mode's concert in Portugal, I included their new single "Going Backwards" in a live session redemption only included on the single.
Supergrass' Alright has been my wake up song this week and it really gives your energy for the rest of the day!
Also, Arcade Fire's new album is almost coming out and they launched a new single called Creature Comfort. Great as always, one of the best bands around.
Travis annouced a 18-anniversary edition of The Man Who and Turn is one of my favourite songs from the album.
The Horrors also have a new single, and it's also in Strange Sound. Machine, everyone.
The Moonlandingz, Temples, Josh Rouse are just songs that were playing on the radio and I memorised them because they are cool!
To end the playlist, ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Ringo Starr! The legendary drummer is going to release is new album soon and Give More Love is the new single! Peace and Love everybody everywhere!

We're Back With A New Playlist

We're back with a new playlist.
Sometime life is hard and keep us very very busy, however, there is always time for music.
Although I didn't post anything since May, I didn't stop listening to music and here is a playlist of 10 songs that were under my radar.

This week's playlist features:

- Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Sixteen - To celebrate his life and music.

- Depeche Mode - Cover Me - The British band released their new album, called "Spirit", here's a good song from it.

- Brett Anderson - Song For My Father The Suede leader re-released all of his albums in CD and Vinyl last Friday. And also, it was father's day two days ago!

- Kasabian - You're In Love With A Psycho - New single for the forthcoming album, to be released on the 28th of April.

- U2 - Mothers Of The Disappeared - Joshua Tree, their classic album, turned 30!

- Gaz Coombes - Seven Walls - Bought Matador, his second solo album this week, and this is my favourite song from it. 

And then, some fantastic songs that I heard randomly on the radio, Best Coast, Rialto, Sequin and Youth Lagoon.

Week #3

Another week, another playlist.
This weeks we have:

01 - Pete Yorn - Life On A Chain - This week's morning music. What a fantastic album.
02 - Cage The Elephant - Too Late To Say Goodbye - Last monday I saw them live and it was super amazing. a great, long and full concert, with pure rock n' roll. This song was probably the first I really liked from them. The guitar slide solo is great.
03 - Depeche Mode - Walking In My Shoes - Today I received by mail a t-shirt with the artwork of this song. Great t-shirt, but even better song. Actually, it was this song that brought me to like Depeche Mode.
04 - The Cardigans - Higher - This week I bought the CD of Pale Honey, a Swedish band, so I listened to Gran Turismo from start to finish. Fantastic album but another Swedish band.
05 -  Suede - Sound Of The Streets - It isn't everyday that you listen to a b-side of your favourite band on the radio. It happened this week.
06 - David Bowie - No Plan - Bowie will release is final EP in physical formats also.
07 - Pale Honey - 0100 - Bought the CD from this amazing Swedish band. Loved all the songs, but this one is special because of its uplifting melody.
08 - Bob Marley & The Wailers - The Heathen - If Bob was alive, he would have been 72 this week.
09 - GNR - Que Importa? - The legendary Portuguese band will give a very special concert tomorrow in Porto, celebrating 35 years of activity.
10 - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree - Nick Cave announced an European tour.

04 - Pet Shop Boys - Rent - Pet Shop Boys were announced as the 2017 NME Godlike Genius Awards.
05 - Hope Sandoval And The Warm Inventions - Let ME Get There (feat. Kurt Vile) - Heard this song on the radio and has a really great vibe.
06 - Brett Anderson - Thin Men Dancing - Brett Anderson will re-release all of his solo albums with extras and also on vinyl for the first time.
07 - Goldfrapp - Anymore - New single from their new album "Silver Eye" that will be released in March
08 - Bon Iver - Blood Bank - Bought this week the ticket to Primavera Sounds, which Bon Iver will headline.
09 - The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes -  This album was playing all the week on my car.
10 - Madrepaz - Novas Pontes - Heard this brilliant song on the radio, didn't know this band before, but this song is really fantastic. The greatest surprise of the week.

January Playlist

I started to use Spotify recently, and I'll start to do some playlists and post them here. Playlists will be connected with new music I'm listening and news that are happening.
On the first playlist we can find bands like Depeche Mode (just bought the ticket), Suede (Attitude, the music which featured the late John Hurt), David Bowie (one year since is passing), Pale Honey, Tame Impala, Franz Ferdinand, Elastica (they are reforming), Arcade Fire, Mondo Drag and Patrick Duff.
